Zot Overview

Secure your stack with a hardened Zot image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.

Zot is a vendor-neutral registry that natively stores container images and artifacts in standard OCI formats.

Try It Out

Create a minimal configuration file named config.json:

Start the registry:

docker run -d \
  --name minimus-zot \

  -v $(pwd)/config.json:/etc/zot/config.json \
  reg.mini.dev/zot \
  serve /etc/zot/config.json

Verify it's running by querying the v2 API:

curl http://localhost:8080/v2/

An empty JSON object confirms the registry is reachable and healthy.

To clean up:

docker rm -f minimus-zot

Technical Considerations

The Zot image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.

Zot built by Minimus:

Runs as root to support required functions in alignment with the public image.
Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.

The Payoff

A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
