Vault-CSI-Provider Overview

Secure your stack with a hardened Vault-CSI-Provider image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.

Vault-CSI-Provider is a HashiCorp Vault plugin for the Kubernetes Secrets Store CSI Driver. It allows pods to mount secrets from Vault as volumes, enabling applications to consume secrets without environment variables or Kubernetes Secrets.

Try It Out

Vault-CSI-Provider is deployed as part of the HashiCorp Vault Helm chart with CSI support enabled. Add the following to your values.yaml:

csi:
  enabled: true
  image:
    repository: "reg.mini.dev/vault-csi-provider"
    tag: "latest"

Then install or upgrade the chart:

helm repo add hashicorp https://helm.releases.hashicorp.com
helm repo update
helm upgrade --install vault hashicorp/vault -f values.yaml

Technical Considerations

The Vault-CSI-Provider image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.

Vault-CSI-Provider built by Minimus:

  1. Runs as root to support required functions in alignment with the public image.
  2. Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.

The Payoff

A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
