\n\n# Temporal Helm Chart\n\nTemporal is a distributed, scalable, durable, and highly available orchestration engine to execute asynchronous long-running business logic in a scalable and resilient way. The Temporal Helm chart automates deployment and configuration of Temporal in Kubernetes clusters using Minimus images.\n\n\n## {{icon-list-search}} Prerequisites\n\n- A subscription to the Minimus images included in the chart\n- A running Kubernetes cluster (v1.21 or higher is recommended)\n- `kubectl` installed and configured\n- Helm v3.8 or higher for OCI support ([Installation instructions](https://helm.sh/docs/intro/install/))\n- Cluster Admin privileges\n- A supported database backend (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Cassandra) accessible from the cluster\n\n

\n\n## {{icon-rocket}}Try It Out\n\nIn this example we will deploy Temporal on a Kubernetes cluster using the Minimus Temporal Helm chart. Temporal will provide a workflow orchestration engine with a web UI for monitoring and managing workflows.\n\n

\n\n### Step 1: Start Cluster\n\n

\n\nIf you have a cluster to work with, skip this step. Otherwise, start a Minikube cluster. [Deployment instructions](https://minikube.sigs.k8s.io/docs/start/?arch=%2Flinux%2Fx86-64%2Fstable%2Fbinary+download)\n\n

\n\n### Step 2: Create Namespace\n\n

\n\nCreate a namespace:\n\n```\nkubectl create ns temporal\n```\n\n{{if-enterprise}}\n\nNext, create a Kubernetes secret for the Minimus token:\n\n```\nkubectl create secret docker-registry minimus-registry \\\n --docker-server=reg.mini.dev \\\n --docker-username=minimus \\\n --docker-password={{pull-token}} \\\n --namespace=temporal\n```\n\n{{/if-enterprise}}\n\n

\n\n### Step 3: Configure a Database\n\n

\n\nTemporal stores all workflow state in an external database and **does not bundle one** — the chart ships with no datastore configured, so it will not start until you point it at your own PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Cassandra instance. Provision a database reachable from the cluster, then describe it in a `values.yaml`:\n\n```yaml\ntemporal:\n server:\n config:\n persistence:\n defaultStore: default\n visibilityStore: visibility\n datastores:\n default:\n sql:\n pluginName: postgres12 # or mysql8; append _pgx for the pgx driver\n connectProtocol: tcp # required — the server fails to start without it\n connectAddr: \"postgresql.mydb.svc:5432\"\n databaseName: temporal\n user: temporal\n password: \"\" # or omit and set existingSecret + secretKey\n visibility:\n sql:\n pluginName: postgres12\n connectProtocol: tcp\n connectAddr: \"postgresql.mydb.svc:5432\"\n databaseName: temporal_visibility\n user: temporal\n password: \"\"\n```\n\nThe chart runs schema setup for you (`createDatabase` and `manageSchema` default to `true`), so the `temporal` and `temporal_visibility` databases are created and migrated on first install. \n\n### Step 4: Deploy the Helm Chart\n\n

\n\nDeploy the Minimus Helm chart with your database configuration:\n\n```\nhelm install my-temporal {{oci-url}} \\\n --version {{chart-version}} \\\n -f values.yaml \\\n -n temporal \\\n --wait\n```\n\nFor the full list of tunables, see the Values tab.\n\n

\n\n### Step 5: Verify Temporal is Running\n\n

\n\n### Step 6: Test HTTP Endpoint\n\n

\n\nForward the Temporal web UI port to your local machine:\n\n```\nkubectl port-forward svc/my-temporal-web -n temporal 8080:8080\n```\n\nIn a separate terminal, check the web UI is responding:\n\n```\ncurl -sf http://localhost:8080/healthz\n```\n\nYou can also open `http://localhost:8080` in a browser to access the Temporal web UI for monitoring workflows and namespaces.\n\n

\n\n### Step 7: Clean Up\n\n

\n\nUninstall the chart and delete the namespace to remove all resources:\n\n```\nhelm uninstall my-temporal -n temporal\nkubectl delete namespace temporal\n```\n\n
