Rclone Overview

Secure your stack with a hardened Rclone image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.

Rclone is a command-line tool for managing files on cloud storage, giving teams one consistent interface for backups, migrations, and everyday file transfers. Rclone supports dozens of cloud storage providers, including Amazon S3, Google Drive, Azure Blob Storage, and Dropbox.

Try It Out

For a quick test, print the version information:

docker run --rm -it \
reg.mini.dev/rclone version

Sync local directories

Rclone can copy and sync files between any two paths it can reach, including two local directories, which is a quick way to try it out without setting up a cloud account. Create a source directory with a sample file and an empty destination directory:

mkdir -p source dest
echo "hello from rclone" > source/hello.txt

Copy the contents of source into dest:

docker run --rm \
  -v $(pwd)/source:/source \
  -v $(pwd)/dest:/dest \
  reg.mini.dev/rclone copy /source /dest

Check that the file arrived:

ls dest

You should see hello.txt.

copy only transfers files that are missing or different at the destination. To make dest an exact mirror of source, including removing files that no longer exist in the source, use sync instead of copy.

Technical Considerations

The Rclone image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.

Rclone built by Minimus:

Runs as root to support required functions in alignment with the public image.
Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.

A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
