R-Base Overview

Secure your stack with a hardened R-Base image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.

R-Base is a system for statistical computation and graphics. It includes the R language and a run-time environment with graphics, a debugger, and the Rscript runner.

Try It Out

Launch R directly for interactive work:

docker run -it --rm reg.mini.dev/r-base

The R version information will printout and then open the R console (REPL).

You can also override the entrypoint to run the container as a command-line executor for R scripts:

docker run --entrypoint=/usr/bin/Rscript reg.mini.dev/r-base

Technical Considerations

The R-Base image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.

R-Base built by Minimus:

  1. Runs as root to support required functions, similar to the public image.
  2. Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.

The Payoff

A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
