Prometheus-Redis-Exporter Overview

Secure your stack with a hardened Prometheus-Redis-Exporter image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.

Prometheus-Redis-Exporter is an application that connects to Redis instances and exposes their metrics in a Prometheus-friendly format for monitoring.

Try It Out

Take the image for a test run together with the Minimus Redis container.

First, create a custom network:

docker network create minimus-redis-net

Run the Minimus Redis container on your custom network:

docker run -d \
  --name minimus-redis \
  --network minimus-redis-net \
  -p 6379:6379 \
  reg.mini.dev/redis

Run the Prometheus-Redis-Exporter container and connect to your Redis container:

docker run -d \
  --name minimus-redis-exporter \
  --network minimus-redis-net \
  -p 9121:9121 \
  reg.mini.dev/prometheus-redis-exporter \
  --web.listen-address=":9121" \
  --redis.addr="redis://minimus-redis:6379" \
  --log-format=txt

Connect to the metrics feed over port 9121:

curl http://localhost:9121/metrics

The metrics will end with a message such as:

redis_up 1
redis_uptime_in_seconds 6603

Technical Considerations

The Prometheus-Redis-Exporter image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.

Prometheus-Redis-Exporter built by Minimus:

  1. Runs as non-root by default for a security-first approach that protects against privilege escalation attacks.
  2. Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.
:

The Payoff

A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
