\n\n# PostgreSQL Advanced Helm Chart\n\nPostgreSQL (Postgres) is an open source object-relational database known for reliability and data integrity. ACID-compliant, it supports foreign keys, joins, views, triggers and stored procedures. The PostgreSQL Advanced Helm chart automates deployment and configuration of PostgreSQL in Kubernetes clusters using the Minimus PostgreSQL Advanced image with hardened security and production-grade configuration.\n\n\n## {{icon-list-search}} Prerequisites\n\n- A subscription to the Minimus images included in the chart\n- A running Kubernetes cluster (v1.21 or higher is recommended)\n- `kubectl` installed and configured\n- Helm v3.8 or higher for OCI support ([Installation instructions](https://helm.sh/docs/intro/install/))\n- Cluster Admin privileges\n- Persistent storage available in your cluster\n\n\n

\n\n## {{icon-rocket}}Try It Out\n\nIn this example we will deploy PostgreSQL on a Kubernetes cluster using the Minimus PostgreSQL Advanced Helm chart. PostgreSQL will be configured with hardened security settings and production-grade defaults.\n\n

\n\n### Step 1: Start Cluster\n\n

\n\nIf you have a cluster to work with, skip this step. Otherwise, start a Minikube cluster. [Deployment instructions](https://minikube.sigs.k8s.io/docs/start/?arch=%2Flinux%2Fx86-64%2Fstable%2Fbinary+download)\n\n

\n\n### Step 2: Create Namespace\n\n

\n\nCreate a namespace:\n\n```\nkubectl create ns postgresql-advanced\n```\n\n{{if-enterprise}}\n\nNext, create a Kubernetes secret for the Minimus token:\n\n```\nkubectl create secret docker-registry minimus-registry \\\n --docker-server=reg.mini.dev \\\n --docker-username=minimus \\\n --docker-password={{pull-token}} \\\n --namespace=postgresql-advanced\n```\n\n{{/if-enterprise}}\n\n

\n\n### Step 3 (optional): Save Values File Locally\n\n

\n\nIf you want to override the chart's defaults, go to the Values tab, save a copy locally, and edit it. Skip this step to deploy with the chart's defaults.\n\n

\n\n### Step 4: Deploy the Helm Chart\n\n

\n\nDeploy the Minimus Helm chart:\n\n```\nhelm install my-postgresql-advanced {{oci-url}} \\\n --version {{chart-version}} \\\n -n postgresql-advanced \\\n --wait\n```\n\nIf you customized values in Step 3, append `-f values.yaml` to layer your overrides on top of the chart's defaults:\n\n```\nhelm install my-postgresql-advanced {{oci-url}} \\\n --version {{chart-version}} \\\n -f values.yaml \\\n -n postgresql-advanced \\\n --wait\n```\n\n

\n\n### Step 5: Verify PostgreSQL Advanced is Running\n\n

\n\nTo check that the pod was successfully created run:\n\n```\nkubectl get pods -n postgresql-advanced -l app.kubernetes.io/name=postgresql\n```\n\nYou should see output similar to:\n\n```\nNAME READY STATUS RESTARTS AGE\nmy-postgresql-advanced-0 1/1 Running 0 2m\n```\n\n

\n\n### Step 6: Test Database Connection\n\n

\n\nRetrieve the PostgreSQL password:\n\n```\nexport POSTGRES_PASSWORD=$(kubectl get secret my-postgresql-advanced -n postgresql-advanced -o jsonpath='{.data.postgres-password}' | base64 -d)\n```\n\nForward the PostgreSQL port to your local machine:\n\n```\nkubectl port-forward svc/my-postgresql-advanced 5432:5432 -n postgresql-advanced\n```\n\nIn another terminal, connect using `psql`:\n\n```\nPGPASSWORD=$POSTGRES_PASSWORD psql -h localhost -p 5432 -U postgres -c \"SELECT 1;\"\n```\n\nYou should see a result confirming the connection is working.\n\n

\n\n### Step 7: Clean Up\n\n

\n\nUninstall the chart and delete the namespace to remove all resources:\n\n```bash\nhelm uninstall my-postgresql-advanced -n postgresql-advanced\nkubectl delete namespace postgresql-advanced\n```\n\n
