OpenTelemetry-Collector-K8s is a Kubernetes-native deployment of the OpenTelemetry Collector that gathers telemetry data (metrics, logs, and traces) from applications and infrastructure running in clusters. It receives telemetry signals through various receivers, processes and transforms them using pipelines, and exports them to backend observability systems. The collector runs as a DaemonSet or sidecar to efficiently collect and forward observability data while reducing the overhead on individual applications.
Technical Considerations
The OpenTelemetry-Collector-K8s image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.
