OpenSearch Dashboards Overview

Secure your stack with a hardened OpenSearch Dashboards image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.

OpenSearch Dashboards is the visualization and user interface layer for OpenSearch. It provides interactive dashboards, search exploration, index management, and alerting interfaces for data stored in OpenSearch clusters.

Try It Out

OpenSearch Dashboards requires a running OpenSearch instance. Create an opensearch.yml file to disable security for testing:

network.host: 0.0.0.0
discovery.type: single-node
plugins.security.disabled: true

Start OpenSearch and OpenSearch Dashboards on a shared network:

docker network create opensearch-net

docker run -d \
  --name opensearch \
  --network opensearch-net \
  -v ./opensearch.yml:/usr/share/opensearch/config/opensearch.yml:ro \
  reg.mini.dev/opensearch

docker run -d \
  --name opensearch-dashboards \
  --network opensearch-net \
  -e OPENSEARCH_HOSTS='["http://opensearch:9200"]' \
  -e DISABLE_SECURITY_DASHBOARDS_PLUGIN=true \
  -p 5601:5601 \
  reg.mini.dev/opensearch-dashboards

Wait for the containers to initiate and visit http://localhost:5601 in your browser to set up your OpenSearch Dashboards.

Technical Considerations

The OpenSearch Dashboards image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.

OpenSearch Dashboards built by Minimus:

Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.

A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
