Mage AI Overview

Secure your stack with a hardened Mage AI image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.

Mage AI is an open-source, self-hosted development environment for building, running, and managing data pipelines. It provides a notebook-style UI for writing pipeline blocks in Python, SQL, or R, along with prebuilt data integrations, job scheduling, and built-in dbt support.

Try It Out

Run the Mage AI container, mounting the working directory at /home/src so your project files and data survive restarts and image upgrades:

docker run -d --name mageai \
  -p 6789:6789 \
  -v mageai-data:/home/src \
  reg.mini.dev/mageai \
  /app/run_app.sh mage start demo_project

demo_project is an arbitrary name for the pipeline project Mage will create on first boot. You can replace it with any name you like.

Visit http://localhost:6789 in your browser and log in with the default credentials (admin@admin.com / admin) to reach the Mage AI dashboard and start building pipelines.

Technical Considerations

The Mage AI image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.

Mage AI built by Minimus:

  1. Runs as root to support required functions in alignment with the public image.
  2. Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.

The Payoff

A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
