LiveKit CLI Overview

Secure your stack with a hardened LiveKit CLI image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.

LiveKit CLI is a command-line tool for interacting with LiveKit servers and managing real-time communication infrastructure. It provides utilities for testing, debugging, and managing LiveKit deployments from your terminal.

Try It Out

Take the Minimus LiveKit CLI image for a test run by printing the help menu:

docker run --rm -it \
reg.mini.dev/livekit-cli --help

You should see the LiveKit CLI help output with available commands and options.

Check LiveKit CLI version

To verify the LiveKit CLI version installed in the image:

docker run --rm -it \
reg.mini.dev/livekit-cli --version

Configure LiveKit CLI

To use LiveKit CLI with your LiveKit server, set the appropriate environment variables:

docker run --rm -it \
  -e LIVEKIT_URL="ws://localhost:7880" \
  -e LIVEKIT_API_KEY="your-api-key" \
  -e LIVEKIT_API_SECRET="your-api-secret" \
reg.mini.dev/livekit-cli [command]

This allows you to run LiveKit CLI commands against your LiveKit server instance.

Technical Considerations

The LiveKit CLI image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.

LiveKit CLI built by Minimus:

  1. Runs as non-root by default for a security-first approach that protects against privilege escalation attacks.
  2. Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.

The Payoff

A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
