LibreOffice-Unoserver Overview

Secure your stack with a hardened LibreOffice-Unoserver image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.

Use this image to run a headless LibreOffice document conversion server. Unoserver exposes the LibreOffice UNO API over a network interface, allowing applications to convert documents such as DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX to PDF and other formats without a desktop environment.

Try It Out

To start a Minimus LibreOffice-Unoserver instance

docker run -d --rm --name minimus-libreoffice-unoserver \
-p 2003:2003 \
reg.mini.dev/libreoffice-unoserver

To convert a document to PDF using the running server

docker exec minimus-libreoffice-unoserver \
unoconvert --host-location remote /path/to/input.docx /path/to/output.pdf

Technical Considerations

The LibreOffice-Unoserver image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.

LibreOffice-Unoserver built by Minimus:

Runs as root to support required functions in alignment with the public image.
Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.
