Karma Overview

Secure your stack with a hardened Karma image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.


Karma is a dashboard for Prometheus Alertmanager. It fills the gaps in Alertmanager's own UI, aggregating alerts from one or more Alertmanager instances into a single view with grouping, silence management, alert history, and multi-grid layouts.


Try It Out

For a quick test, run Karma against an Alertmanager instance.

Create a shared network so the containers can reach each other by name:

docker network create karma-net

Create a simple Alertmanager configuration file. Save it as alertmanager.yml in your current working directory.

Set the file permissions to make the file readable by the container's non-root user:

chmod 644 alertmanager.yml

Start Alertmanager on the network, advertising itself as alertmanager so Karma can reach it by name:

docker run -d --rm --name alertmanager --network karma-net \
  -v ./alertmanager.yml:/etc/alertmanager/alertmanager.yml \
  reg.mini.dev/prometheus-alertmanager

Run Karma on the same network, pointed at the Alertmanager instance:

docker run --rm --network karma-net \
  -p 8080:8080 \
  -e ALERTMANAGER_URI=http://alertmanager:9093 \
  reg.mini.dev/karma

Visit the dashboard at http://localhost:8080.


Technical Considerations

The Karma image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.

Karma built by Minimus:

  1. Runs as non-root by default for a security-first approach that protects against privilege escalation attacks.
  2. Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.

The Payoff

A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
