Grafana-Image-Renderer Overview

Secure your stack with a hardened Grafana-Image-Renderer image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.

Grafana-Image-Renderer is a Grafana plugin that runs as a remote rendering service, using headless Chromium to generate PNG screenshots of Grafana panels and dashboards. It powers alert notifications with embedded panel images, scheduled PDF reports, and shareable dashboard snapshots in order to offload the workload from the main Grafana process to a dedicated container.

Try It Out

Take the Minimus Grafana-Image-Renderer image for a test run:

docker run -d \
  --name=grafana-image-renderer \
  -p 8081:8081 \
  reg.mini.dev/grafana-image-renderer

This starts the rendering service on port 8081. Set the following environment variables on your Grafana container to point to it:

GF_RENDERING_SERVER_URL=http://grafana-image-renderer:8081/render
GF_RENDERING_CALLBACK_URL=http://grafana:3000/

Technical Considerations

The Grafana-Image-Renderer image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.

Grafana-Image-Renderer built by Minimus:

  1. Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.

The Payoff

A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
