Grafana-Beyla Overview
Secure your stack with a hardened Grafana-Beyla image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.
Grafana-Beyla is an eBPF-based auto-instrumentation tool that captures traces and RED metrics for HTTP/S and gRPC services without requiring code changes, redeploys, or language-specific agents. It attaches to a running process and sends the data to an OpenTelemetry endpoint or Prometheus, with support for Go, Java, .NET, Node.js, Python, Ruby, Rust, and C/C++.
Try It Out
Beyla instruments another process by sharing its container's PID namespace, so start a sample HTTP service to instrument:
docker run -d -p 8080:8080 --name nginx-hello reg.mini.dev/nginx-helloRun Beyla against the sample service with the --privileged flag and a shared PID namespace to attach to the target process:
docker run --rm \
-e BEYLA_OPEN_PORT=8080 \
-e BEYLA_TRACE_PRINTER=text \
--pid="container:nginx-hello" \
--privileged \
reg.mini.dev/grafana-beylaVisit http://localhost:8080 in your browser and refresh a few times to generate some traffic. Beyla prints the captured trace requests to stdout, for example:
time=2026-07-21T20:16:47.083Z level=INFO msg="instrumenting process" component=discover.traceAttacher cmd=/usr/bin/nginx pid=32 ino=1642459 type=generic service="" logenricher=falseTechnical Considerations
The Grafana-Beyla image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.
Grafana-Beyla built by Minimus:
- Runs as root to support required functions in alignment with the public image.
- Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.
The Payoff
A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
- See the risk reduction dashboard for a detailed CVE comparison over the past 30 days.
- Review the compliance report to see the default hardening and security configurations for the image.
