FIPS 140-3 Certification

This image is FIPS-validated to ensure its cryptographic operations meet the Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) required for secure government and regulated environments. Its core cryptographic modules are validated under the NIST Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP) and comply with the FIPS 140-3 standard.

To verify that the FIPS 140-3 provider is configured and active, follow the instructions in the FIPS compliance tab.

Try It Out

To take the Minimus Drupal-FIPS image for a test run, we will use Docker Compose to create a simple self-hosted Drupal site with PostgreSQL.

Step 1 — Configure the Docker Compose file

Save the following code to a new file drupal-fips-compose.yaml in your project directory:

Step 2 — Start the containers

Run the app:

docker compose -f drupal-fips-compose.yaml up -d

Wait a few seconds for PostgreSQL to initialize, then open your browser.

Step 3 — Follow the installation wizard

Visit http://localhost:8080 and follow the Drupal installation wizard.

For the database configuration step (step 4) use the following:

1. Database type: PostgreSQL
2. Database name: drupal
3. Database username: drupal
4. Database password: drupalP@ssword1! (The password from your drupal-compose.yamlfile.)
5. Advanced options > Host: db (We need to change the default localhost to use the Docker Compose service name, since Drupal runs inside a container and cannot reach PostgreSQL via localhost)

Clean up

Once ready to clean up, run the following command to remove the containers and their associated volumes:

docker compose -f drupal-fips-compose.yaml down -v

Technical Considerations

The Drupal-FIPS image provided by Minimus is a FIPS-validated, slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.
