Datadog Operator Overview

Secure your stack with a hardened Datadog Operator image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.

The Datadog Operator is a Kubernetes operator that replaces manual DaemonSet and Deployment management for Datadog monitoring infrastructure. Instead of maintaining raw Kubernetes manifests for the node agent, cluster agent, and related components, you declare a single DatadogAgent custom resource and the operator handles rollout, configuration, and upgrades automatically. It also lets you manage monitors and SLOs as Kubernetes objects via DatadogMonitor and DatadogSLO, keeping your observability configuration in version control alongside your application code.

Try It Out

For a quick test, print the version information:

docker run --rm reg.mini.dev/datadog-operator --help

Technical Considerations

The Datadog Operator image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.

Datadog Operator built by Minimus:

  1. Runs as non-root by default.
  2. Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.

The Payoff

A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
