Coturn-FIPS Overview
Secure your stack with a FIPS-validated, hardened Coturn image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.
Coturn is a containerized STUN and TURN server that enables peer-to-peer connectivity for real-time communication applications by handling NAT traversal and media relaying. Coturn provides a solution for applications built on WebRTC or SIP-based voice and video calling that need a way to connect peers that sit behind NATs and firewalls, where a direct connection between them often isn't possible. Use this image when you need to meet the requirements for FIPS-validated cryptographic protection.
FIPS 140-3 Certification
This image is FIPS-validated to ensure its cryptographic operations meet the Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) required for secure government and regulated environments. Its core cryptographic modules are validated under the NIST Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP) and comply with the FIPS 140-3 standard.
To verify that the FIPS 140-3 provider is configured and active, follow the instructions in the FIPS compliance tab.
Try It Out
Run Coturn
Coturn reads its settings from a config file. Create a minimal one that opens the STUN/TURN listener, sets a test user, and logs to stdout:

EOFCoturn also needs the UDP relay port range (49152-65535 by default) reachable, and Docker maps large ranges poorly, so run it with host networking instead of individual -p mappings:

Check that the server started and is listening:
docker logs coturnThen send it a STUN binding request from inside the container using the bundled client utility:
docker exec coturn turnutils_stunclient 127.0.0.1A successful response includes the mapped address the server sees for the request, confirming the STUN listener is reachable and answering.
Clean Up
Stop and remove the container:

The Coturn-FIPS image provided by Minimus is a FIPS-validated, slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image.
Coturn-FIPS built by Minimus:
- Runs as a non-root user by default for a security-first approach that protects against privilege escalation attacks, in alignment with the public image.
- Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.
