CloudNativePG PostgreSQL Overview

Secure your stack with a hardened CloudNativePG PostgreSQL image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies.

The CloudNativePG (CNPG) platform is designed to seamlessly manage PostgreSQL databases in Kubernetes environments. The CloudNative-PG-PostgreSQL image is a purpose-built PostgreSQL container used by the CloudNativePG operator to run database instances within a Kubernetes cluster. It bundles the core PostgreSQL engine with essential extensions and backup utilities that the operator relies on for streaming replication, automated failover, and point-in-time recovery.

Try It Out

Verify you can pull the image:

docker pull reg.mini.dev/cloudnative-pg-postgresql

This image is designed to run inside a Kubernetes cluster managed by the CloudNativePG operator and cannot be tested standalone with docker run.

Technical Considerations

The CloudNativePG PostgreSQL image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.

CloudNativePG PostgreSQL built by Minimus:

  1. Runs as non-root as UID 26 in alignment with the public image.
  2. Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.

The Payoff

A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
