Chronograf Overview

Secure your stack with a hardened Chronograf image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.

Chronograf is a visualization tool for time series data in InfluxDB. It is the UI component of the TICK stack alongside Telegraf, InfluxDB, and Kapacitor, providing a single place to explore data, build dashboards, and manage users and alert rules.

Try It Out

Start Chronograf and expose the web UI on port 8888:

docker run --rm -d \
  --name chronograf-test \
  -p 8888:8888 \
  reg.mini.dev/chronograf

Confirm the server is responding:

curl -I http://localhost:8888

Visit http://localhost:8888 in a browser to reach the setup wizard, where you connect Chronograf to an InfluxDB instance and, optionally, a Kapacitor instance for alerting.

Technical Considerations

The Chronograf image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.

Chronograf built by Minimus:

Runs as root to support required functions in alignment with the public image.
Listens on port 8888/TCP by default but does not expose the port. The public image listens on and exposes the same port by default.
Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.

The Payoff

A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
