cert-manager-csi-driver
cert-manager-csi-driver Overview
Secure your stack with a hardened cert-manager-csi-driver image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.
cert-manager-csi-driver is a Kubernetes Container Storage Interface (CSI) plugin that mounts cert-manager-issued certificate key pairs directly into Pods using ephemeral volumes. It keeps private keys local to the node and renews them automatically as certificates approach expiry, without the need for intermediate Secrets.
Try It Out
Prerequisites
- A running Kubernetes cluster (v1.19 or higher)
- cert-manager already installed on the cluster
- Helm v3.8 or higher for OCI support (Installation instructions)
Step 1: Deploy via Helm Chart
Install cert-manager-csi-driver using the Minimus image:
helm upgrade cert-manager-csi-driver oci://quay.io/jetstack/charts/cert-manager-csi-driver \
--install \
--namespace cert-manager \
--set image.repository=reg.mini.dev/cert-manager-csi-driver \
--set image.tag=latest \
--waitStep 2: Verify the Driver is Registered
Confirm the CSIDriver resource was created:
kubectl get csidriversConfirm a CSINode entry exists for each node:
kubectl get csinodes -o yamlEach node should show a driver entry for csi.cert-manager.io.
Technical Considerations
The cert-manager-csi-driver image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.
cert-manager-csi-driver built by Minimus:
- Runs as non-root by default for a security-first approach that protects against privilege escalation attacks.
- Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.
The Payoff
A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
- See the risk reduction dashboard for a detailed CVE comparison over the past 30 days.
- Review the compliance report to see the default hardening and security configurations for the image.
