cAdvisor-FIPS Overview

Secure your stack with a hardened cAdvisor-FIPS image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.

Use this image to monitor resources and performance of containers in real time. cAdvisor (Container Advisor) monitors and graphs resource usage, resource isolation, and performance metrics for container environments.

FIPS 140-3 Certification

This image is FIPS-validated to ensure its cryptographic operations meet the Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) required for secure government and regulated environments. Its core cryptographic modules are validated under the NIST Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP) and comply with the FIPS 140-3 standard.

To verify that the FIPS 140-3 provider is configured and active, follow the instructions in the FIPS compliance tab.

Try It Out

To take the image for a test, run the Minimus cAdvisor image:

Give the container a moment to initialize.

Then, visit the cAdvisor dashboard at http://localhost:8080. If you're working in a VM, run curl ifconfig.me to look up your external IP and substitute it like this: http://{IP}:8080.

Alternatively, you can test the server directly from the CLI:

Technical Considerations

The cAdvisor-FIPS image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.

cAdvisor-FIPS built by Minimus:

For users who prefer to run cAdvisor without privileges, we provide a cadvisor user (UID 1000). This setup requires mounting specific devices, adding capabilities via docker run, and possibly customizing the seccomp profile. Refer to cAdvisor docs for further details.
Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.
