Argo Workflow Controller Overview

Secure your stack with a hardened Argo Workflow Controller image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.

Argo Workflows is a workflow engine for orchestrating parallel jobs on Kubernetes that can be used to run CI/CD pipelines natively on Kubernetes. Argo Workflow Controller is a Kubernetes controller deployed in the cluster, usually in the argo namespace.

Try It Out

For a quick test, print the version information:

docker run --rm \
reg.mini.dev/argo-workflow-controller version

Ready to run Workflow Controller with local kubeconfig?

Run the Workflow Controller using a local kubeconfig file for cluster access:

docker run --rm -it \
-v $(pwd)/kubeconfig:/workdir/kubeconfig \
reg.mini.dev/argo-workflow-controller \
workflow-controller --kubeconfig /workdir/kubeconfig

Run Workflow Controller in a specific namespace:

docker run --rm -it \
-v $(pwd)/kubeconfig:/workdir/kubeconfig \
reg.mini.dev/argo-workflow-controller \
workflow-controller \
    --kubeconfig /workdir/kubeconfig \
    --namespace my-namespace

Run Workflow Controller with a custom ConfigMap:

docker run --rm -it \
-v $(pwd)/kubeconfig:/workdir/kubeconfig \
reg.mini.dev/argo-workflow-controller \
workflow-controller \
    --kubeconfig /workdir/kubeconfig \
    --configmap my-custom-config

Technical Considerations

The Argo Workflow Controller image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.

Argo Workflow Controller built by Minimus:

  1. Runs as non-root by default for a security-first approach that protects against privilege escalation attacks. The public image runs as user 8737.
  2. Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.

The Payoff

A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
