Apigee-Microgateway Overview

Secure your stack with a hardened Apigee Microgateway image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.

Use the Apigee Microgateway image to run a lightweight API gateway that enforces security, authentication, and traffic policies close to your backend services.

Try It Out

For a quick test, print the help menu:

docker run --rm --entrypoint edgemicro reg.mini.dev/apigee-microgateway --help

Start the Gateway

Starting the gateway requires an Apigee Edge organization with Edge Microgateway configured. Run edgemicro configure against your org to obtain a key and secret, then start the gateway:

docker run -d --name apigee-microgateway -p 8000:8000 \
  -e EDGEMICRO_ORG=<your_org> \
  -e EDGEMICRO_ENV=<your_env> \
  -e EDGEMICRO_KEY=<your_key> \
  -e EDGEMICRO_SECRET=<your_secret> \
  reg.mini.dev/apigee-microgateway

Confirm the gateway is listening on port 8000:

docker logs apigee-microgateway

Clean Up

docker stop apigee-microgateway
docker rm apigee-microgateway

Technical Considerations

The Apigee-Microgateway image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.

Apigee-Microgateway built by Minimus:

  1. Runs as a non-root user by default for a security-first approach that protects against privilege escalation attacks.
  2. Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.

The Payoff

A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
