Terraform Overview
Secure your stack with a hardened Terraform image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.
Use Terraform to automate the setup of servers, databases and networks across cloud providers. Terraform is an Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tool used to define, provision, and manage cloud infrastructure using declarative configuration files.
Try It Out
Take the Minimus Terraform image for a test run using your own main.tf file or use our example:
terraform {
required_providers {
time = {
source = "hashicorp/time"
version = "~> 0.7"
}
}
}
provider "time" {}
resource "time_static" "now" {}
output "timestamp" {
value = time_static.now.rfc3339
}Assuming your main.tf file is located at LOCAL_DIR=$(pwd)/tmp, run terraform init and mount the file:
docker run --rm \
-v "$LOCAL_DIR":/workspace \
-w /workspace \
reg.mini.dev/terraform init -input=false Run terraform apply:
docker run --rm \
-v "$LOCAL_DIR":/workspace \
-w /workspace \
reg.mini.dev/terraform apply -auto-approve -input=falseTechnical Considerations
The Terraform image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.
Terraform built by Minimus:
- Runs as non-root by default for a security-first approach that protects against privilege escalation attacks. The public image runs as root.
- Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.
The Payoff
A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
- See the risk reduction dashboard for a detailed CVE comparison over the past 30 days.
- Review the compliance report to see the default hardening and security configurations for the image.
