Pulumi Kubernetes Operator Overview
Secure your stack with a hardened Pulumi Kubernetes Operator image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.
The Pulumi Kubernetes Operator manages Pulumi Stacks as Kubernetes Custom Resources (CRs). It enables declarative GitOps workflows that unify infrastructure and application delivery.
Try It Out
Deploy the operator into a Kubernetes cluster using the official Helm chart, overriding the image to use the Minimus-hardened version.
Prerequisites
- A running Kubernetes cluster
- Helm v3 or higher (Installation instructions)
kubectlinstalled and configured
Step 1: Install the Operator
Install using the official Helm chart with the Minimus image:
helm install pulumi-kubernetes-operator \
oci://ghcr.io/pulumi/helm-charts/pulumi-kubernetes-operator \
--namespace pulumi-kubernetes-operator \
--create-namespace \
--set image.repository=reg.mini.dev/pulumi-kubernetes-operator \
--set image.tag=latestStep 2: Verify the Operator is Running
kubectl get pods -n pulumi-kubernetes-operatorNAME READY STATUS RESTARTS AGE
pulumi-kubernetes-operator-<id> 1/1 Running 0 30sThe operator is ready to reconcile Stack custom resources once the pod reaches Running status.
Technical Considerations
The Pulumi Kubernetes Operator image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.
Pulumi Kubernetes Operator built by Minimus:
- Runs as a non-root user by default for a security-first approach that protects against privilege escalation attacks.
- Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.
The Payoff
A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
- See the risk reduction dashboard for a detailed CVE comparison over the past 30 days.
- Review the compliance report to see the default hardening and security configurations for the image.
