Prometheus Node Exporter Overview
Secure your stack with a hardened Prometheus Node Exporter image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.
Use Prometheus Node Exporter to collect hardware and OS-level metrics from host systems, typically for monitoring infrastructure health and performance.
Try It Out
To take the Minimus Prometheus Node Exporter image for a test, run:
docker run -d --rm \
--net="host" \
--pid="host" \
-v "/:/host:ro,rslave" \
reg.mini.dev/prometheus-node-exporter --path.rootfs=/hostThis command has the container gather metrics from the host, not the container's filesystem.
Visit http://localhost:9100/metrics to view the metrics in the Prometheus Node Exporter site. If you're working in a VM, run curl ifconfig.me to look up your external IP and substitute it like this: http://{IP}:9100/metrics.
Deploy via a Helm chart
Prometheus Node Exporter can also be deployed via Helm. See the related charts tab to get started.
Technical Considerations
The Prometheus Node Exporter image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.
Prometheus Node Exporter built by Minimus:
- Runs as non-root by default as user 1000. The public image runs as user nobody.
- Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.
The Payoff
A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
- See the risk reduction dashboard for a detailed CVE comparison over the past 30 days.
- Review the compliance report to see the default hardening and security configurations for the image.
