Prometheus Alertmanager Overview
Secure your stack with a hardened Prometheus Alertmanager image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.
Use this image to manage alerts sent by Prometheus (or other compatible tools). Prometheus Alertmanager is a component of the Prometheus monitoring system used for managing and sending alerts.
Try It Out
Take the Minimus Prometheus Alertmanager image for a test run. First, create a simple configuration file.
Save it as alertmanager.yml in your current working directory.
global:
resolve_timeout: 10m
route:
receiver: 'example-webhook' # A default receiver is required
group_by: ['alertname']
group_wait: 1s
group_interval: 1m
repeat_interval: 1h
receivers:
- name: 'example-webhook'
webhook_configs:
- url: 'http://example.com/hook'Set the file permissions to make the file readable by the container's non-root user:
chmod 644 alertmanager.ymlRun the container:
docker run -d --rm \
-p 9093:9093 \
-v ./alertmanager.yml:/etc/alertmanager/alertmanager.yml \
reg.mini.dev/prometheus-alertmanagerVisit the Alertmanager at http://localhost:9093. Alternatively, run curl http://localhost:9093.
Deploy via a Helm chart
Prometheus Alertmanager can also be deployed via Helm. See the related charts tab to get started.
Technical Considerations
The Prometheus Alertmanager image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.
Prometheus Alertmanager built by Minimus:
- Runs as non-root by default as user 1000. The public image runs as user nobody by default.
- The entrypoint is set to
/usr/bin/alertmanager. The public image entrypoint isbin/alertmanager. - Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.
The Payoff
A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
- See the risk reduction dashboard for a detailed CVE comparison over the past 30 days.
- Review the compliance report to see the default hardening and security configurations for the image.
