Nginx Proxy Manager Overview
Secure your stack with a hardened Nginx Proxy Manager image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies.
Use this image to configure reverse proxy hosts with SSL termination using Let's Encrypt or custom SSL certificates.
Try It Out
Take the Minimus Nginx Proxy Manager image for a test run:
First, create the following two folders:
- data
- letsencrypt
Next, run the container using the following command:
docker run -d --name minimus-nginx-pm \
-p 80:80 \
-p 81:81 \
-v $PWD/nginx-data:/data \
-v $PWD/letsencrypt:/etc/letsencrypt \
reg.mini.dev/nginx-proxy-managerThis command will start the Nginx Proxy Manager and map container ports 80/TCP and 81/TCP to the same ports on the host.
Visit http://localhost:81 in your browser to view the default NGINX Proxy Manager page.
Once prompted for the user and password, enter the following defaults:
Email: admin@example.com
Password: changemeYou will be asked to update your user information and change the password.
Technical Considerations
The Nginx Proxy Manager image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.
Nginx Proxy Manager built by Minimus:
- Listens on but does not expose the default ports: 80/tcp, 81/tcp, and 443/tcp. By comparison, the public image both listens on and exposes these ports.
- The image has no default volumes. The public image defaults to
/data. - Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.
The Payoff
- A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
- See the risk reduction dashboard for a detailed CVE comparison over the past 30 days.
- Review the compliance report to see the default hardening and security configurations for the image.
