Memcached Overview
Secure your stack with a hardened Memcached image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.
Memcached is a high-speed, in-memory key-value store used to cache frequently accessed data and reduce load on databases or APIs.
Try It Out
Take the Minimus Memcached image for a test run:
docker run --rm \
-p 11211:11211 \
reg.mini.dev/memcachedThis will run the service with the default settings.
Memcached does not have configuration files, so fine-tuning is done via command line parameters, for example:
docker run --rm -d \
-p 11211:11211 \
reg.mini.dev/memcached memcached --slab-min-size=64 --threads=16This will run Memcached with a minimal slab size of 64 bytes (default is 48 bytes) and 16 worker threads (default is 4).
Technical Considerations
The Memcached image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.
Memcached built by Minimus:
- The image default volume is
/var/memcached. The public image volume defaults to root. - Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.
The Payoff
A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
- See the risk reduction dashboard for a detailed CVE comparison over the past 30 days.
- Review the compliance report to see the default hardening and security configurations for the image.
