jetty
Jetty Overview
Secure your stack with a hardened Jetty image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.
Jetty is a pure Java-based HTTP (Web) server and Java Servlet container. Jetty is often used for larger software frameworks and is used as a web server in Apache Spark, Google App Engine, Eclipse, Twitter's Streaming API and more.
Try It Out
For a quick test without mounting an app, simply run the Jetty server and map the ports:
docker run -d --rm --name jetty \
-p 8080:8080 \
-p 8443:8443 \
reg.mini.dev/jettyVisit http://localhost:8080 or https://localhost:8443. Note that you may see a 404 error since no app is deployed.
If you're working in a VM, run curl ifconfig.me to look up your external IP and substitute it.
Serve an app from an archive file
If you have a WAR archive file to mount:
docker run -d --rm --name jetty \
-p 8080:8080 -p 8443:8443 \
-v "$PWD/myapp.war:/var/lib/jetty/webapps/ROOT.war:ro" \
reg.mini.dev/jettyServe an app from an unpacked directory structure
If you have an exploded webapp directory to mount:
docker run -d --rm --name jetty \
-p 8080:8080 -p 8443:8443 \
-v "$PWD/myapp:/var/lib/jetty/webapps/ROOT:ro" \
reg.mini.dev/jettyVisit the web page at http://localhost:8080 or https://localhost:8443 in your browser. As noted above, if you're working in a VM, run curl ifconfig.me to look up your external IP and substitute it.
Technical Considerations
The Jetty image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.
Jetty built by Minimus:
- Runs as non-root by default for a security-first approach that protects against privilege escalation attacks.
- Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.
The Payoff
A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
- See the risk reduction dashboard for a detailed CVE comparison over the past 30 days.
- Review the compliance report to see the default hardening and security configurations for the image.
