ClickHouse Overview
Secure your stack with a hardened ClickHouse image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.
ClickHouse is a fast and resource efficient database for real-time apps and analytics.
Try It Out
Take the Minimus ClickHouse image for a test run. The following command will set a root user and password:
docker run -d --rm \
--name clickhouse-server \
--ulimit nofile=262144:262144 \
-e CLICKHOUSE_USER=minimus \
-e CLICKHOUSE_PASSWORD="Minimus!" \
-e CLICKHOUSE_DB=mydatabase \
reg.mini.dev/clickhouseUlimits control resource limits for processes in Unix/Linux and nofile sets the number of open files the process can open simultaneously. It's required since otherwise ClickHouse can quickly reach an error under load.
Open an interactive shell directly inside the container:
docker exec -it clickhouse-server clickhouse-clientRun an SQL command, for example:
CREATE TABLE test_table (
id UInt32,
name String
) ENGINE = Memory;
INSERT INTO test_table VALUES (1, 'Alice'), (2, 'Bob');
SELECT * FROM test_table;Technical Considerations
The ClickHouse image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.
ClickHouse built by Minimus:
- Runs as non-root by default for a security-first approach that protects against privilege escalation attacks.
- Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.
The Payoff
A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
- See the risk reduction dashboard for a detailed CVE comparison over the past 30 days.
- Review the compliance report to see the default hardening and security configurations for the image.
