ClickHouse-Metrics-Exporter Overview
Secure your stack with a hardened ClickHouse-Metrics-Exporter image freshly-built by Minimus. Minimus images always include the most up-to-date package version for all packages and dependencies contained in the image.
ClickHouse Metrics Exporter collects performance and operational metrics from ClickHouse servers and exposes them in a Prometheus-compatible format for monitoring.
Try It Out
Prerequisites
- A running Kubernetes cluster (v1.21 or higher is recommended)
- Helm v3.8 or higher for OCI support (Installation instructions)
kubectlinstalled and configured
Step 1: Start Cluster
If you have a cluster to work with, skip this step. Otherwise, start a Minikube cluster. Deployment instructions
Step 2: Add Repository to your Local Client
Add the Helm chart to your local Helm client.
helm repo add clickhouse https://helm.altinity.com
helm repo updateStep 3: Create Namespace
Create a namespace:
kubectl create ns clickhouseStep 4: Save Files Locally
Download the ClickHouse values file from the Minimus examples repo:
wget -O clickhouse.yaml https://raw.githubusercontent.com/minimusio/examples/main/clickhouse/clickhouse.yamlThe chart clickhouse/clickhouse installs the Altinity Operator as a subchart. If your cluster already has a cluster-wide operator (see the ClickHouse-Operator guide), edit the clickhouse.yaml file before you deploy to set operator.enabled: false.
Step 5: Deploy the Helm Chart
Deploy the Helm chart with the values file:
helm upgrade --install clickhouse clickhouse/clickhouse -f clickhouse.yaml -n clickhouseWait a few minutes and check that the Pods are up and running:
kubectl -n clickhouse get poConfirm that Minimus images were deployed:
kubectl -n clickhouse describe pods | grep Image:Step 6: Verify ClickHouse
Port-forward the ClickHouse HTTP interface to your local machine:
kubectl -n clickhouse port-forward service/clickhouse-clickhouse 8123:8123Keep the terminal window open and visit http://localhost:8123/ in your browser. You should see the ClickHouse dashboard.
Clean Up
Uninstall the chart and clean up:
helm uninstall clickhouse -n clickhouse
kubectl delete ns clickhouseTechnical Considerations
The ClickHouse-Metrics-Exporter image provided by Minimus is a slim, security-hardened alternative to the public image from Docker Hub. The images are largely interchangeable, with a few differences as noted below.
ClickHouse-Metrics-Exporter built by Minimus:
- Runs as non-root by default as user 65534.
- Drill down on the version specification tab to see the default user, listening ports, entrypoint, volumes, environment variables, etc.
The Payoff
A hardened, minimal image that will remain more secure for the long run and accrue vulnerabilities at a slower rate.
- See the risk reduction dashboard for a detailed CVE comparison over the past 30 days.
- Review the compliance report to see the default hardening and security configurations for the image.
