Try It Out
In this example we will deploy Traefik on a Kubernetes cluster using the Minimus Traefik Helm chart. Traefik will provide a fully configured ingress controller with HTTP and HTTPS entrypoints.
Step 1: Start Cluster
If you have a cluster to work with, skip this step. Otherwise, start a Minikube cluster. Deployment instructions
Step 2: Create Namespace
Create a namespace:
kubectl create ns traefik
Step 3: Deploy the Helm Chart
Deploy the Minimus Helm chart:
helm install my-traefik oci://helm.mini.dev/traefik \
--version 41.0.2 \
-n traefik \
--wait
If you want to override the chart's defaults, go to the Values tab, save a copy locally with your changes. Deploy the chart with your overrides using -f values.yaml:
helm install my-traefik oci://helm.mini.dev/traefik \
--version 41.0.2 \
-f values.yaml \
-n traefik \
--wait
Step 4: Verify Traefik is Running
Confirm the chart deployed successfully and Traefik started:
kubectl get pods -n traefik
You should see output similar to:
NAME READY STATUS RESTARTS AGE
my-traefik-xxxxxxxxx-xxxxx 1/1 Running 0 2m
Step 5: Test HTTP Endpoint
Verify Traefik is responding by port-forwarding to the admin entrypoint and checking the ping endpoint:
kubectl port-forward svc/my-traefik -n traefik 8080:8080 &
Check the health endpoint:
curl -sf http://localhost:8080/ping
You should see:
You can also access the Traefik dashboard API:
curl -sf http://localhost:8080/api/overview | jq .
Stop the port-forward when done:
Step 6: Clean Up
Uninstall the chart and delete the namespace to remove all resources:
helm uninstall my-traefik -n traefik
kubectl delete namespace traefik
