Try It Out
In this example we will deploy Redis on a Kubernetes cluster using the Minimus Redis Advanced FIPS Helm chart. Redis will be deployed in a master-replica replication topology with authentication enabled out of the box.
Step 1: Start Cluster
If you have a cluster to work with, skip this step. Otherwise, start a Minikube cluster. Deployment instructions
Step 2: Create Namespace
Create a namespace:
kubectl create ns redis-advanced-fips
Step 3: Deploy the Helm Chart
Deploy the Minimus Helm chart:
helm install my-redis-advanced-fips oci://helm.mini.dev/redis-advanced-fips \
--version 25.5.3 \
-n redis-advanced-fips \
--wait
If you want to override the chart's defaults, go to the Values tab, save a copy locally with your changes. Deploy the chart with your overrides using -f values.yaml:
helm install my-redis-advanced-fips oci://helm.mini.dev/redis-advanced-fips \
--version 25.5.3 \
-f values.yaml \
-n redis-advanced-fips \
--wait
Step 4: Verify Redis Advanced FIPS is Running
Confirm the chart deployed successfully and Redis started:
kubectl get pods -n redis-advanced-fips -l app.kubernetes.io/name=redis
You should see output similar to:
NAME READY STATUS RESTARTS AGE
my-redis-advanced-fips-master-0 1/1 Running 0 2m
my-redis-advanced-fips-replicas-0 1/1 Running 0 2m
my-redis-advanced-fips-replicas-1 1/1 Running 0 2m
my-redis-advanced-fips-replicas-2 1/1 Running 0 2m
Step 5: Test Redis Connection
Retrieve the Redis password from the deployed secret:
export REDIS_PASSWORD=$(kubectl get secret -n redis-advanced-fips \
my-redis-advanced-fips -o jsonpath='{.data.redis-password}' | base64 -d)
Forward the Redis port to your local machine:
kubectl port-forward svc/my-redis-advanced-fips-master -n redis-advanced-fips 6379:6379
In a separate terminal, connect using redis-cli and verify:
redis-cli -a "$REDIS_PASSWORD" ping
You should see:
Test a SET/GET round-trip:
redis-cli -a "$REDIS_PASSWORD" set mykey "hello"
redis-cli -a "$REDIS_PASSWORD" get mykey
You should see:
Step 6: Clean Up
Uninstall the chart and delete the namespace to remove all resources:
helm uninstall my-redis-advanced-fips -n redis-advanced-fips
kubectl delete namespace redis-advanced-fips
