Try It Out
Step 1: Start Cluster
If you have a cluster to work with, skip this step. Otherwise, start a Minikube cluster. Deployment instructions
Step 2: Create Namespace
Create a namespace:
kubectl create ns prometheus
Step 3: Save Values File Locally
Go to the Values tab and save a copy of the it locally. You will need to add the flag -f values.yaml to override the defaults when you deploy the chart in the next step.
Note: The values.yaml uses default metrics configurations. If you need ServiceMonitor for an external Prometheus, you can add the metrics configuration to your values file.
Step 4: Deploy the Helm Chart
helm upgrade --install prometheus oci://helm.mini.dev/prometheus \
--version 0.1.2 \
-n prometheus \
-f values.yaml \
--wait \
--timeout 5m
Check that all components are running:
kubectl get pods -n prometheus
Step 5: Access Prometheus UI
Port forward to access the Prometheus web interface:
kubectl port-forward -n prometheus svc/prometheus-server 9090:80
Open your browser and navigate to http://localhost:9090
