Try It Out
In this example we will deploy NGINX on a Kubernetes cluster using the Minimus NGINX Advanced Helm chart. NGINX will be configured as a web server with hardened security settings.
Step 1: Start Cluster
If you have a cluster to work with, skip this step. Otherwise, start a Minikube cluster. Deployment instructions
Step 2: Create Namespace
Create a namespace:
kubectl create ns nginx-advanced
Step 3: Deploy the Helm Chart
Deploy the Minimus Helm chart:
helm install my-nginx-advanced oci://helm.mini.dev/nginx-advanced \
--version 24.0.3 \
-n nginx-advanced \
--wait
If you want to override the chart's defaults, go to the Values tab, save a copy locally with your changes. Deploy the chart with your overrides using -f values.yaml:
helm install my-nginx-advanced oci://helm.mini.dev/nginx-advanced \
--version 24.0.3 \
-f values.yaml \
-n nginx-advanced \
--wait
Step 4: Verify NGINX Advanced is Running
Check that the pod was successfully created:
kubectl get pods -n nginx-advanced -l app.kubernetes.io/name=nginx
You should see output similar to:
NAME READY STATUS RESTARTS AGE
my-nginx-advanced-0 1/1 Running 0 2m
Step 5: Test an HTTP Endpoint
Verify that NGINX is working and serving HTTP requests.
Connect to NGINX using port-forward:
kubectl port-forward svc/my-nginx-advanced 8080:80 -n nginx-advanced
In another terminal, test the connection using curl:
curl -sf http://localhost:8080
A successful response (HTTP 200) confirms the deployment is fully operational.
Alternatively, open http://localhost:8080 in a web browser to see the NGINX welcome page.
Step 6: Clean Up
Uninstall the chart and delete the namespace to remove all resources:
helm uninstall my-nginx-advanced -n nginx-advanced
kubectl delete namespace nginx-advanced
